Is it not one of the wonders of being a mom, when a little on learns how to talk. Those first precious words and then short sentences, only meaningful to us were one of the most special experiences in my life. I love language and words. Some people have such a gift for saying what needs to be said in a way that warms the heart and stirs the soul. I love God's word. The living God speaking to me through his spirit and his word remains a deep mystery and one of those experiences that really blows my mind.
Words!
Speach and talking are all one and the same and yet all different ideas of the same thing. Language development has alwasy facinated me.
Our oldest ADHD son learnt to speak words at an early age. He loved words. The sound of them facinated him. He would use them in the most extrodinary ways. His has a sharp mind and excellent vocabulary. His fast running ADHD brain has means that he is an exceptionally good talker. He talks a a great deal.He talks about whatever ideas are in his head. Once he starts talking it is almost as if he can not stop talking. Recently we went to our Natural History Meuseum in Cape Town. He talked as we walked around the entire visit, not letting anyone else have a word in. He tapped me on my arm as he talked. Eventually I said to him... please just wait your turn.... to which he responded by standing , head down in a patient waiting stance while just simply tapping me on my arm until it was his turn.
One of the tick boxes for ADHD is,does my child talk insesently?
It was very easy for us to answer this. It is the kind of train talking where ideas are flowing around his thinking and he just has to say them. Like a long string of ideas all joined together. Do not get me wrong. I love hearing and chatting to him. He has so many great thoughts and ones that are funny and novel.

I encourage him to share what is going on in his brain. The difficulty for him is learning once again to slow down , pause and let someone else have a turn.
Thankfully a great reading ability and a desire to read a lot of books has helped him have something language wise to do. Hooray for books. He devours books at an alarming rate and gathers information that interests him. He is then able to re tell ALL this in his momsnets of talk!!
It is always time to talk in our home.
Our other little ADHD boy also loves a good chat. He just loved his last year teacher because she got this about him and so would have lots of significant, real chats with him. He has a lot of interesting observations, questions and conclusions swimming around in his brain. His brain seems alive with thoughts and when he has just mom alone, then it all comes out. It is tough being the youngest of four.
These special one on one times with mom are precious to me and I guard them well.
Lets keep talking.
